Tutu Tension (2022)
I've always been fascinated with male ballet dancers. I myself trained intensely when I was a child to become a ballet dancer. I felt a lot of pressure to excel. It was hard and I quit dance after the fourth year. Almost ten years later, I still have this fascination for ballet dancers. I believe I admire the fact they became what I never could become.
With this project I want to explore my conflictual relationship to male ballet dancers, torn between longing and jealousy, admiration and desire. I aim at celebrating their beauty, while showing my distance towards them. This project is also the grief of a broken dream, and a slow reconciliation with an aching part of myself through the exploration of a nascent relationship with my subject.
